Antonio Floris began his life in humble surroundings on the beautiful island of Sardinia, Italy in the year 1956. Cooking was in his blood but who would have known that when he began helping his mother at the tender age of 7 it was to be the beginning of a life-long passion for food and cooking.
He moved to mainland Italy at the age of 16 to work in some of the best hotels and restaurants and learnt his trade working the summer seasons on the coast and the winters in the Alps. At the age of 18 he arrived in England to join his older brother Giuseppe working at Milanos in Leeds, the most popular Italian restaurant in the area at that time.
He returned to Sardinia to spend a further 5 years working in Tanka Village and as head chef at La Spiaggia Del Riso restaurant in his hometown of Villasimius. He then went back to England to help his younger brother Ignazio at his newly opened restaurant, Florios in Malton.
A chance opportunity to open something Italian in Flamingoland Themepark & Zoo saw the creation of Antonio's Pizza Bar during the summer of 1986. This proved to be a very successful venture for Antonio and his brother Ignazio and was the stepping stone to opening the 2nd Florios restaurant, located in Scarborough.
Florios Scarborough opened on the 18th December, 1986 and has been serving families from Scarborough and beyond ever since.
